In what is becoming a far more familiar sight these days, yokozuna Asashōryū lost on the first day of the Nagoya basho to rank and filer komusubi Toyonoshima via uwatenage. This is the second basho in a row that Asa has lost on the first day. He lost on the first day of the Natsu basho to Kisenosato.
The yokozuna looked to be in firm control of the bout pushing Toyonoshima to the brink of being thrown off the dohyō, but the komusubi fought back almost toppling Asashoryu before finally throwing him down with a spectacular overarm throw. It looks like this is going to be a very complicated and exciting basho!
